Dental Students Give Kids a Smile
Our Dental Sciences students volunteered for the biannual “Give Kids a Smile” dental clinic on October 27th at St. Louis University’s Center for Advanced Dental Education.
“Give Kids a Smile” provides full-service dentistry to children in need free of charge. Children received an oral examination, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments and education on oral hygiene. If needed, fillings and extractions were also completed at the clinic and follow up appointments were secured.
Our students assisted with cleanings, sterilization, and were able to experience their first patient encounters while networking with different dental professionals around the St. Louis region. Dental Sciences advisor Catrina Houston and instructor Mrs. Vergano accompanied the students to the clinic.
Dental Sciences students graduate from South Tech with up to 8 dual credit hours in Anatomy and Physiology from Missouri Baptist University and their Missouri Expanded Dental Assistant Certification. The combination of certification, college-level course work, and real-world experiences helps these students determine their most appropriate and rewarding career path.
Thank you to “Give Kids a Smile” for their important work and the inclusion of our students. It was a wonderful experience for them.
