6 Students Place at Welding Competition

On April 15th  the South Tech Welding Technology students competed at Midwest Technical Institute in Springfield, IL at the annual High School welding competition. This competition was divided into two flights (A and B) based on experience.  South Tech had 6 students who placed, earning trophies and 4 students also earning cash prizes totaling 1,350. Congratulations to the Welding students and their teacher, Adam Holt.

  • Alec May placed 1st overall (flight A) receiving a $500 cash prize and a trophy.
  • Vincent Indelicato placed 1st overall (flight B) receiving a $500 cash prize and a trophy.
  • Connor Chambliss placed 2nd overall (flight A) receiving a $250 cash prize and a trophy.
  • Alex Poertner placed 3rd overall (flight A) receiving a $100 cash prize and a trophy.
  • Maxx Holtwick placed 5th overall (flight A) receiving a trophy.
  • Erica Mutzbauer placed 8th overall (flight A) receiving a trophy.
Another Student Accepted Into the St. Louis College of Pharmacy

Congratulations to Ashyln! Ashlyn Carrico received notification that she has been accepted into the St. Louis College of Pharmacy (STLCOP). STLCOP is competitive seven-year Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.

Ashlyn, a senior in the Lab and Pharmacy Tech major said she chose South Tech to see what the career of Pharmacy is all about.

Her teacher, Mrs. Melscheimer, said she is a focused and hard-working student. Congratulations Ashyln on this impressive achievement!

SkillsUSA State Championship Results

On March 31st and April 1st South Tech SkillsUSA students put their CTE skills to the test in the annual Missouri SkillsUSA State Championships held at State Technical College in Linn, MO. With 92 students competing, 42 medals were earned in a wide variety of categories from hands on skills, leadership, and written contests with 8 gold, 25 silver, and 9 bronze. Scholarship money to State Technical College was awarded for all 3 levels of medals. Four students will now go on to the National Championships in Louisville, KY in June. These students are:

  • Jillian Bardenheier – Gold Medal in Cosmetology
  • Kiersten Green – Gold Medal in Customer Service
  • Amber Longwell – Gold Medal in Automotive Refinishing
  • Alex Juelfs – Gold Medal in Welding Sculpture
